Insurer Changes for 2026 Marketplace Coverage

Beginning January 1, 2026, Aetna CVS, Health Alliance and Quartz plans will no longer be available on the marketplace. In addition, Cigna will no longer be offering plans to Cook County residents. Cigna will continue to offer plans in other parts of Illinois.

Do I need to take any action right now to keep my coverage through the end of 2025?

No. There is no change to your coverage for 2025. You will have the opportunity to pick a plan with a different insurer during Open Enrollment. Open Enrollment starts November 1, 2025. You will receive additional information from your insurer in July.

What if I need medical care this year?

You can still get medical care this year. Your current benefits remain the same through December 31, 2025.

Do I still need to pay my health insurance premium?

Yes. Both your health insurance coverage and your monthly premium will continue until December 31, 2025. Continue paying your premium as usual to make sure you stay covered. If you do not pay your monthly premium, you risk losing coverage in 2025.

What do I need to do to enroll in coverage for 2026?

If you are currently enrolled in an Aetna CVS, Cigna (Cook County residents only), Health Alliance or Quartz plan, you will receive a renewal notice from the marketplace in late October. These notices will include information about your coverage for 2026, and any action you need to take to enroll in coverage in a comparable plan for 2026. When you receive your renewal notice, you can call the marketplace, and a customer service representative can help you choose a comparable plan for their 2026 coverage.

Why is my health plan going away?

Unfortunately, Aetna CVS, Health Alliance and Quartz made the corporate level decision to pull out of Illinois’s individual market and Cigna from Cook County starting in 2026 for a variety of reasons. Get Covered Illinois encourages customers who are affected by these companies leaving the marketplace to contact their insurer directly.

How can Get Covered Illinois help?

Get Covered Illinois, the state’s health insurance marketplace, can help you choose a new plan for 2026 during Open Enrollment, which begins on November 1, 2025. We also can connect you to a certified broker or navigator to help. We will send you more information in October. Be sure to check back in the fall for more information to help you stay covered in 2026.

I am not enrolled in an Aetna CVS, Cigna (Cook County residents only), Health Alliance or Quartz plan. Is my plan affected?

This only applies to customers currently enrolled in plans by Aetna CVS, Cigna (Cook County only), Health Alliance or Quartz in 2025. All other insurers have indicated their intent to continue to offer individual market health plans in Illinois in 2026.
