Cost Changes for Get Covered Illinois Customers
Congress is cutting tax credits that help lower the cost of coverage for Illinoisans. This means costs will go up for many of our customers.
What’s happening?
In 2026, Get Covered Illinois customers will pay on average $130 more per month for coverage unless Congress acts.
Since 2021, the federal government has been offering enhanced tax credits to make health insurance cheaper for Illinoisans. These enhanced tax credits are expiring December 31, 2025, unless Congress acts to extend them.
This will not affect your premiums in 2025.
Tax credits will still be available for people who qualify, but the amount will be smaller. Individuals who make around $60,000 a year or more (around $82,000 for a couple or $125,000 for a family of four) won’t qualify for any tax credits.
How much will I pay next year?
You’ll know what your 2026 costs will be in late October after your enrollment renewal is complete. Until then, you can see an estimate of your 2026 payments using our cost calculator that will be available on October 27.
What can I do?
The most important thing you can do this year is to shop and compare plans and prices. Insurance costs change every year, but this year is different—you may experience big increases in costs. However, with the wide array of plans available through Get Covered Illinois, most customers are still able to find a plan that fits their healthcare needs and budget, so it’s important to compare your options.
Starting October 27, you can compare plans and prices using our cost calculator.
On November 1, log in to your Get Covered Illinois account and update your household and income information if anything has changed in your household. This information is used to determine the amount of financial help you are eligible for.
